July 10, 2018 - Jean Vanier Summer Movie Experience
L'Arche Atlanta and the Emory Aquinas Center of Theology co-hostied a screening of an amazing documentary on the incredible life of Jean Vanier who started the first L'Arche community. in Trosley, France. Summer in the Forest, directed Randall Wright, involves us in the lives of some of L'Arche's residents, both in France and in one of its offshoots in Bethlehem. Their humanity, their foibles, and their endearing friendship are all demonstrated powerfully throughout the documentary. Vanier's philosophy that love, peace, and friendship will drive out fear pervades the whole film. The small movement Jean Vanier began has become a world wide movement of love, joy, and solidarity.
140 people from the L'Arche, Aquinas Center, and people from nearby parishes and the community, joined us for the exclusive movie screening. Our conversation about the movie continues on social media: follow us on Facebook to join the conversation!
If you missed the screening, you can watch the trailer here.

May 4, 2017 - A Night of Song
A Night of Song with Woodward Academy Choir On May 4, 2017, over 80 people joined with members from the First Christian Church of Decatur and the First Christian Church of Atlanta to hear the Woodward Academy Choir perform a selection of songs that expressed the vision of love and hope that are central to the vision of L'Arche. L'Arche Atlanta Core Member, Corbin McKinnon, made a guest appearance and performed on his bagpipes.
The Woodward Academy Adult Community Choir was chartered to promote diversity and inclusion among all employees and to showcase their talents and gifts. This choir serves as ambassadors of Woodward Academy and beyond. This choir consists of faculty, staff, dining service, and parent community as well. Not only does this choir give two concerts within Woodward Academy, but also performs in places such as local nursing homes, children’s hospitals, and shelters for the homeless throughout the year. This choir will present songs to express peace, love, and community. We were so blessed by their performance.
A special thanks to Ann Edmondson, the Choir's Director, and to James Brewer-Calvert and the volunteers at the First Christian Church of Decatur for their hospitality.
