CONNEXIONS FAQs
I have accessibility needs. Am I still welcome to come to CONNEXIONS groups?
Yes! Our goal is to create spaces where ALL people feel welcome and able to participate. Activities may be modified for each person, depending on their need and comfort level. If you have any concerns, please contact your group facilitator or email [email protected] to discuss some ways we can support you in enjoying your CONNEXIONS activity. Due to the nature of these groups, we cannot provide transportation or support with activities of daily living.
Who leads CONNEXIONS groups?
In a way, you do! CONNEXIONS are groups of friends that come together to do something they enjoy together. Each group has two volunteer facilitators that keep things organized, notify members when the meetups will be, and report back to L'Arche, but they want to lead group activities that you are excited about!
Where do CONNEXIONS meetups happen?
Each group will approach this differently. This will be a conversation between L’Arche, the facilitators, and group members to determine what works best for each group. Your group facilitators will let you know where each event will be held.
*For groups with members who rely on public transportation, we will try to host events near MARTA stops so that all people are able to attend.
How often do CONNEXIONS groups meet?
Each group chooses the easiest meeting cadence for their unique group, whether quarterly, monthly, or more frequently.
Is there a cost for joining a group/participating in events?
CONNEXIONS are free to join! We are grateful to have funding support from Dekalb County Human Services & the L'Arche donor community, so we have some grant funds for group needs. However, there may be some events where members may be asked to contribute supplies; for example each cooking group member bringing an ingredient for a meal. If a group decides to attend a venue with a fee (e.g., the High Museum), each member would need to pay for themselves or ask L’Arche for a scholarship. We may be able to obtain free admission in some cases, so let your facilitator know if you need financial assistance to participate.
Can I join more than one CONNEXIONS group?
Yes!! We recommend starting with just one or two to get used to the rhythm of group meetups. Also note that some CONNEXIONS groups may meet at the same time.
I have signed up for a group. How will I know when & where we are meeting?
When you sign up for a CONNEXIONS group, the facilitator will send you an email with the information for the next group gathering.
I can’t make it to some CONNEXIONS events. Am I still part of the group?
Yes! You are still considered part of the CONNEXIONS group even if you don’t come to every event. We will keep you on the list to be contacted for as long as you’d like!
How do new people join a CONNEXIONS group?
New members can sign up at any of our community events or fill in the sign-up form.
Do I need to sign a liability waiver?
Prior to participating in any CONNEXIONS activity, we need a signed liability waiver on file. You can fill out a form at a community event, at a CONNEXIONS meeting, or download a liability waiver here and email a picture of it to Becca at [email protected].
Can my friend come even if they’re not signed up?
You are welcome to bring friends to group meetings as well! Be sure to communicate with your group facilitator so they have an accurate headcount and can help your friend sign up during the group meeting. Note that your friend will need to sign a liability waiver before they can participate.
What age group are CONNEXIONS groups designed for?
CONNEXIONS groups are designed for adults 18 years and older.
Will there ever be other CONNEXIONS groups?
Yes! The first five groups will get us started this year, but our hope is to continue to grow the program so that everyone can find a place to belong at L’Arche. If you have an idea for another group, please contact Becca at [email protected].
