Live-Out and Live-In House Assistant/DSP

Live-In House Assistant / Direct Support Professional
Looking for a career change? Want to take a gap year? Become a live-in Assistant with L’Arche!

Assistants are trained as Direct Support Professionals to provide quality care for Core Members (people with intellectual disabilities) at L’Arche. This care is given and received in a spirit of mutuality and friendship. This is a full time (40 hours/week) position that pays $17/hour. AND...

As a live in, in addition to hourly compensation, you receive:
  • A private bedroom in a beautiful Decatur home RENT FREE
  • FREE utilities, wifi and access to in-home laundry
  • FREE grocery staples and community meals 
  • 25 Days of PTO per year
In exchange, Live-In Assistants are scheduled for two to three uncompensated overnights per week of being in the house overnight and available to respond to core members if care is needed or an emergency happens. Overnight calls to duty are compensated at the awake rate of $17/hour. 

Together, Assistants and Core Members create the unique pulse of life in a L’Arche community--building meaningful relationships, inspiring equality, and welcoming others just as they are.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
​No previous experience necessary. L'Arche will provide 4-6 weeks of paid training time. The following are required:
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination with booster vaccines if eligible
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • High School Education or GED equivalent
  • Fluent enough in English to read, understand, and implement health care plans and respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Able to pass a background check (no prior history of crimes against other people, financial exploitations, or crimes related to the manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance)
  • A current/valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report (no DUIs, hit-and-runs, or super-speeder tickets)
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Willing to become certified in First-Aid/CPR and in crisis de-escalation technique
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 
L'Arche provides:
  • For live-in assistants: room & board including: a private bedroom, water/utilities/internet, & meals/common grocery items (approximately a $7,000 value)
  • Competitive compensation $17/hour
  • 25 PTO (Paid Time Off) days per year
  • Nearly full coverage (93%) for health, vision, & dental insurance (approximately a $5,000 value)
