As a Home Life Leader at L’Arche Atlanta, you will principally be responsible for quality of life and sense of belonging in one of our homes. You will lead a team of Direct Support Professionals (what we call internally “Assistants”) to both foster community life and deliver quality residential support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will also be responsible for creating a safe and trusting home environment. This is at the heart of L’Arche Atlanta community life. L’Arche Atlanta opened its first home in Decatur in 2012 and its second in 2022. L’Arche Atlanta homes are made up of people with and without disabilities who live, work, pray/reflect, and celebrate together. Those who share in daily home life include:

A Care Coordinator who works alongside the Home Life Leader to coordinate healthcare
This is a full-time (40 hrs/wk) position, with expectation of working some evenings and weekends.
Primary job responsibilities include:
Sharing life in a community of people with and without intellectual disabilities and facilitating the co-creation of a community life grounded in the values in the Charter of L’Arche and shaped by core members and staff alike.
Overseeing the scheduling and management of the home
Supervising and coaching between five and eight live-in and live-out Direct Support Professionals (L’Arche calls this staff position “House Assistants”)
Training new Assistant hires
Auditing documentation
Acting as a primary liaison to the Core Members’ family members
Acting as a primary liaison to Core Members’ assigned Support Coordinators, and natural supports
Providing support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, accompanying Core Members in seeking dignity, growth, and fulfillment, and ensuring they are involved in decisions concerning them
Support with scheduling Core Member activities, coordinating transportation, and initiating time out in the community
Nurturing the common spiritual life of the home and the overall culture of community building. L’Arche’s spirituality is inclusive.
Practicing L’Arche hospitality to families and friends of community members and to people who support L’Arche
The following are required:
Available to begin work on or before May 27, 2024
Experience working in intentional community, and developing mutual relationships with people with disabilities.
Ability to implement health care plans and to respond appropriately in an emergency.
Experience in social work or other social services fields is preferred but not required.
Experience in mid-level management is preferred but not required.
Willingness to remain in the role for at least two years
Able to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
Bachelor required, Masters preferred
21+ years old, eligible to work in the United States
A valid driver’s license with no recent major traffic violations such as DUI, super-speeder ticket, etc.
A pre-employment drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle report are all required prior to start date.
